This is something which few Safricans would ever witness, as official petrol-station employees are the ones who fill up your gas and shit.

FILLING STATION ATTENDANTS:

Now in Burgerland, Gas Station Attendants are officially instead called "Filling station attendants". And their slang term for them are "gas jockeys" or at least so in North America. I'm told Canadians also use the term Gas Jockeys, but I can't confirm that, some Leafs dramatards will have to confirm.

Now what's notable for Burgerland is that Gas Jockeys do exist in the modern day, but are very rare, and only exist in a select few States or municipal regions (yanks call these Counties).

Now just like modern day South African Gas Station Attendants, these gas jockeys would basically do services outside of just accepting payment (which are done usually by lone gas-station attendants just accepting cash if even cards aren't swiped on the yank petrol-pump itself). These other services would be stuff like cleaning windshields, checking the client's remaining oil and water levels, pumping their tires for air on request, or in really fricking old vehicles/trucks cranking the shafts, and other stuff which franchise petrol-stations offer services to attract customers to their specific branded petrol-stations.

Now Gas Jockies used to be more prevalent in Burgerland, but their utilization would decline by the time the 1970s arrived, punctuated when Burgerland would have a gas-shortage crisis

Consequently the businesses most hardest hit by these gasoline-shortages would be the stations themselves, which suffered decades long layoffs and cost-cutting with intensity, within 10 years the american culture of widespread gas attendants would basically cease. Many "Full-service gas-stations" would close, aka those stations with Gas Jockies, and basically in the majority of Burgerland states only "self-help stations", aka the modern most widespread gas stations in Amerika, would become the norm. In most of the West like Europe, "self-help stations" are pretty much the norm also, and it is in fact the "Full-service gas-stations" (the stations with attendants) which are the outlier and aberration, ESPECIALLY in america.

There are as far as I can tell, only two states in USA where "Full-service gas-stations" are still in widespread use in modern Burgerland. The yank states of New Jersey and Oregon.

The histories I don't know why, but basically both states had local municipal laws in the 1950s enforcing that "self-help stations" would be illegal, and thus were the only two states which survived the death of the "Full-service gas-stations" culture in the 1970s gasoline shortage crisis, as "self-help stations" were not legally allowed to outcompete them.

Now hilariously the modern Republic of South Africa is only one of the only 3 nations upon this earth which have legally recognized working occupations known as a "Gas Station Attendants".

For South Africa, this was enacted back in the 1990s, during the Nelson Mandela Administration and the Thabo Mbeki Administrations for the sake of Job Creation, as there was intense levels of joblessness even back then. The Western liberal democracies' sanctions against the Union of SA's Apartheid State had crippled the country, and had obliterated the wealth of many businesses and farms, unfortunately sanctions tend to be a blunt instrument and all races were equally economically traumatized by the sanctions from the 1980s to 1992.

As part of their initiatives of job creation by the ANC, many new jobs were deemed to be created on the most compulsory industries, such as anything related to the fuel industry.

Many Mayos would b-word about these new Job Creation initiatives, as they believed that many peeps were given junk jobs just to fill out uniforms and create nonsense jobs - jobs which maybe paid for the new employees of the state, but added no benefit to the economy or aided the new nation. Most criticized of these new types of jobs was the Gas Station Attendant, once again because Mayo Boomers were used to pumping their own shit, and now had to have someone do it for them?? What a useless job!

"Full-service gas-stations" had existed before, but they weren't a nationally legalized requirement. None were more pissed by this ruling than Petrol Station owners themselves, as they suddenly found themselves with massively exorbitantly increased labour costs involved.

In fact the nature of South African Petrol Stations would drastically change due to this nationalization of the Gas Station Attendant job. Before 1990s, many individually owned "Mom-and-Pop" Gas Stations existed in SA, but these new regulations would mean only national scale chain and franchise Gas Station companies would be able to afford continual operation as Gas Stations, especially as Petrol Tax would also increase under the new ANC regime.

In fact for modern Gas Stations, they basically make ZERO profit via the sale of petrol alone, and all Gas Station franchise basically make their money via their convenience-stores and road-restaurants and shops attached next to the sets of gas pumps. A very common form of theft, especially in places like Cape Town with limited parking behind fences in the cramped city, is for thieves to bust open the petrol-cap, and literally suck out the petrol/diesel right out of your vehicle in the middle of the night, and for the poor luckless owner to climb into his car, and realize to their dismay their fuel gage is fricking empty overnight!!

Cape Town - The nationwide petrol attendant strike has seen calls for big oil companies to consider installing self-service pumps at their petrol stations.

But while the move would put South Africa in line with First World economies such as the US and UK, industry experts have warned that adoption of the pumps locally could result in widespread unemployment.

Self-service pumps were first introduced in the 1970s. Initially the system was built on trust, with motorists filling up before paying at the station's shop.

Avhapfani Tshifularo, executive director of the South African Petroleum Industry Association, said self service would simply not work in the country. “Nobody is allowed to fill up his own tank at a petrol station according to the law which protects 70 000 jobs at a retail level.”

For Mxolisi Ratsibe, head of employee relations at the National Petroleum Employee Association, the debate boiled down to one glaring downside. “Jobs, jobs, jobs.”

My life before transition wasn't like that. I genuinely enjoyed being my male myself before all this. I loved being alive. All of that is gone now. I lost everything I liked about myself. My career is gone, my good looks are gone. I might have gotten discriminated in the first 1.5 years but nobody is discriminating me now. So if I'm accepted by the important people in my life and by employers, why am I still miserable? Am I not supposed to feel "gender euphoria" now or whatever? Or some kind of appreciable mental health improvement? I don't feel any improvement because it's simply not there, and likely never will be. I don't think I'm one of those people the studies talk about when they say transitioning improves people's lives. Im the outlier or the 1% who don't improve. I went through all of this for nothing.

How does on camera make it worse... When he noticed the camera he didn't seem guilty or scared. He seemed like a dad excited to be out with his kid. I agree the timing and the clip itself looks weird, but it very well could be innocent. A dad biting his son's ear playfully, or a p-do seductively nibbling on a young boy are 2 very different things which can look indistinguishable.

SINGAPORE: In the three weeks since the speed enforcement function was activated in red-light cameras, those cameras have detected more than 800 speeding violations, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Monday (Apr 29).

The speed enforcement function in red-light cameras was progressively activated from Apr 1 in an effort to improve motorist behaviour on roads.

This would be done islandwide, SPF said previously, especially at locations that are more prone to accidents or violations.

There are more than 250 red-light cameras in Singapore as of last December, although the police did not reveal how many have had the speed enforcement function activated and where these cameras are located.

"Speeding and beating the red light have always been the top two traffic violations. Together, they account for about 75 per cent of the traffic violations committed in 2023," SPF said.

The newly activated function in red-light cameras has expanded the Traffic Police's range of enforcement equipment against speeding motorists, said Deputy Superintendent of Police William Foo, the officer-in-charge of the surveillance camera unit.

However, the number of speeding violations detected is "of concern", he said.

"We will continue to step up on our enforcement and will not hesitate to take action against errant motorists who choose to flout traffic rules," he added.

According to the police's latest annual traffic situation report in February, the number of speeding-related fatal accidents increased by 83.3 per cent in 2023 compared with 2022.

Although there was a fall in violations detected by traffic enforcement cameras in 2023, the number of speeding violations detected by other police enforcement operations increased by 22 per cent, from 52,016 cases to 63,468.

DETECTING TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

TP officers patrol the roads around the clock, keeping a lookout for motorists who flout traffic rules the police said on Monday, adding that traffic enforcement operations are also conducted regularly.

Additionally, speed cameras and red-light cameras are used to detect violations with the help of laser technology, radar technology or detector loops embedded in the road.

Cameras using laser technology emit laser beams at a vehicle and measure the time it takes for the beam to bounce back to calculate the vehicle's speed.

Those using radar technology operate the same way, except they emit radio waves instead of laser beams.

Cameras that use detector loops - which are typically the red-light cameras - create an electromagnetic field when the traffic light turns red. When a vehicle passes over the loop, it disrupts the field and triggers the camera to capture images of the vehicle.

The speed enforcement function in TP's red-light cameras operates similarly as well, said the police.

"If the traffic violation is detected by an enforcement camera, the violation image or video captured will be processed backend," SPF said, adding that these will then be reviewed by camera unit officers.

All violations go through a "two-layer verification" to ensure validity and accuracy before a report is created, said the police. The entire process could take about two to three weeks.

A notice of traffic offence may be issued to the motorist depending on the investigation outcome.
